Gouache & Pastels Workshop

In this 3-week class learn to use gouache as an underpainting with bold application of pastels on top to create paintings loaded with color and vitality! Working from your own photographs and chosen subject matter you will explore the endless possibilities with this approach. The matte finish of the two mediums allows for the perfect union and creates a work of art that seamlessly blends the two mediums into an inspiring completed piece. Basic materials will need to be purchased for this class and the list is attached in a separate file or you may purchase it online from VisArts. VisArts will provide canvas.
Please bring at least three 8 x10 color photographs of your chosen subject matter (preferably printed on quality paper to allow for best color resolution. Images on a laptops are fine as well. Please NO images on cell phones.
If desired, materials may be purchased from VisArts and will be on hand at the first class. Or materials may be purchased at any good art supply store.

Floral & Still Life Painting

Learn the “Old Masters” technique of painting that became popular among Renaissance/Baroque period artists and still is used by contemporary artists today. This technique is beautifully suited to the use of acrylics. Paint from your own photographs for subject matter. Learn to paint in layers using a triad color palette while using monochromatic underpainting, staining and glazing techniques. The basics of color theory and the different types of acrylic paints will be discussed. VisArts will provide two stretched canvases but additional supplies will need to be purchased.
If desired, materials may be purchased from VisArts and will be on hand at the first class. Or materials may be purchased at any good art supply store.
